Celebrating A Milestone

calculatorNumbers really don’t have much meaning when you think about it but we still get excited when something happens whether is a world-record or anything else. Numerical benchmarks help us quantify what’s going on in the world around us. Authors spend a lot of time tracking numbers such as words written, number of words in a draft, pages written, etc.

So I keep track of  details as best I can regarding my writing. Last night, I took a look at my overall sales for The Bow of Destiny and found that I’ve crossed 1000 paid sales! That’s a big achievement considering:

  1. Most Indie books don’t sell $100 in a year.
  2. Most first novels by an author don’t sell very much if at all.
  3. I have no other novels available to support this one so The Bow of Destiny has been going it alone against all the probabilities.

It’s been quite a ride over the last year since I released The Bow of Destiny. Most of the sales have come since I was able to commit more time to marketing back in mid-June. I set some goals, not knowing how I was going to achieve them, rolled up my sleeves and got to work to find out how to get to start meeting my sales goals.

But The Bow of Destiny would not have sold this much unless it was pretty good. Like I mentioned above, there’s nothing else to attract people to it except a couple of short, free e-books. To get this far the book has beaten the odds and has become quite a strong swimmer on its own – and that’s just as an e-book. Now I’m exploring what strategy I should take in going to print with The Bow of Destiny.

I’ll keep working on it as well as the next book, An Arrow Against the Wind as well as The White Arrow. But for the moment, I’ll just let the light shine on the book and look forward to the next steps for this series and presenting it to readers.
