Scrivener is a powerful writing tool. I write about it weekly with tips and usage ideas. To read more of my posts click the Scrivener tag or category at the end of the page.
Sometimes I’m contacted by someone who kindly lets me know that my Scrivener posts have helped them in some way. Often in these messages I’m referred to as a guru or a power user. I’m flattered by these terms but I’ve always found these labels daunting to say the least. Why do I feel this way? I’m glad you asked..
I don’t work for Scrivener nor do I make a living training people to use Scrivener. I do use Scrivener daily to do much of my writing work so I’m almost constantly working in it. Due to this reason, I’m always discovering a feature or usage that makes for good blog material. I’m constantly learning and this is true with writing, blogging and using Scrivener. I learn many things as I go and try to put what I know to good use as well as share it with others.
So what kind of user am I? An avid user. This is someone who loves the software and is constantly looking for ways to use it more effectively. Often instructions aren’t enough for people, they need a way to relate the material to usage and that’s why I share so much of what I’ve learned – and continue to learn – over this blog. I do receive notes in various places from people who have trouble making a transition to Scrivener but once they do they really understand what they’ve been missing.
Please share your thoughts and ideas in the comments section. I’d also love to connect with you over social media so check my Contact page for that information.
P. H. Solomon lives in the greater Birmingham, AL area where he strongly dislikes yard work and sanding the deck rail. However, he performs these duties to maintain a nice home for his loved ones as well as the family’s German Shepherds. In his spare time, P. H. rides herd as a Computer Whisperer on large computers called servers (harmonica not required). Additionally, he enjoys reading, running, most sports and fantasy football. Having a degree in Anthropology, he also has a wide array of more “serious” interests in addition to working regularly to hone his writing. The Bow of Destiny is his first novel-length title with more soon to come.

Got a nice reply via Twitter from @Scrivenerapp about this post: “Thank you! Glad to have you as an avid user. 🙂 All the best, DJ.”
I’m truly pleased to be an avid user!
I’m an avid user too. I started teaching classes last year, but I’m always discovering another new trick behind the Scrivener curtain. 🙂
They’ve provided so many. Just when you need some feature there it is – like magic.
I am a convert to Scrivener since downloading it for iOS. I admit I know only a small fraction of its uses so far but I am still impressed. Thanks so much for sharing all you have learned; it really is a fantastic help to those of us (like me) who are not so tech-minded but do want to get the most they can out of it. I will continue to be an avid reader of your posts!
Thanks, Wendy. Good to know I’ve got avid readers. I hope to get some new material posted in the coming weeks but I’m wrestling with a heavy revision this month so there’s less time.
With me it’s a first draft almost complete, so of course, understand. Will look out for your posts when you have time.
I think Scrivener is to writing as Excel is to accounting.
I’m a relatively new user and very much appreciate your Scrivener articles. You explains thing clearly and more times that not the issue is very timely for me.
Recently, I tried to review your old Scrivener posts from your website but couldn’t find an easy way to do it. Is there a table of contents or an index for them?
Thanks for letting me know about your interest. Tags are good to check. I have thought of putting a short book together at some point but, alas, I’m working on my next novel and the one after it.There are some good videos on YouTube as well as the manual. I hope to post some newer articles sometime in the near future and maybe link to videos more as well. Let me know if you have a specific question and I can look up posts for you. I don’t think I have a search widget available to add at this time but I’ll look into adding that feature if I can.
I just added a search widget on the sidebar. Not sure why I haven’t done that before now. That may help you search terms for Scrivener.
