Psi Another Day

Fantasy Authors Unplugged Featuring D. R. Rosensteel

This is continuing feature on Archer’s Aim – Fantasy Authors Unplugged. I hope to frequently share an interview with a fantasy author. If you have authors to suggest and/or questions you’d like to see answered then leave a comment or send me an email. If you are a fantasy author and would like an interview please let me know and we’ll plan one that fits your schedule. Today I welcome D. R. Rosensteel who’s sharing his latest book – take it away, D. R!

What’s the plot of your latest book?

Psi Another DaySixteen-year-old Rinnie Noelle is called into action again as the crime rate suddenly accelerates in Greensburg. Rinnie’s friends and teachers disappear in a bizarre game of riddles where fresh cemetery plots and poetic clues point to the next victim. Between keeping the Dweeb League from getting themselves killed, dealing with a new Psi Fighter who gives her attitude, and trying to figure out who Nicolaitan’s next victim is before it’s too late, Rinnie is pulled into a wild ride that makes her question everything she believes about good and evil. In a climactic showdown, the Psi Fighters and Walpurgis Knights face off for the first time in a decade. The problem is, Rinnie has learned that a rogue Psi Fighter is in their midst, and is unsure who is on her side.

What themes do you like to explore in your writing and why?

Good vs. Evil, drugs, bullying, God, standing up for what’s right, protecting the innocent.

How would you describe your writing style?

Fun and witty. I like characters who see the humor in life, even in dark circumstances.

What drew you to write fantasy?

I’ve always been a Sword and Sorcery fan. I loved the Conan the Barbarian stories growing up. I read Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit for the first time while I was in college, and I was hooked. Most of my stories are modern-day fantasy, although I am working on a manuscript set in medieval times.

What actors do you envision as playing some of your characters?

Rinnie would played by Saoirse Ronan because of her fighting skills. She played an assassin in Hannah and was awesome. Kathryn would be played by Jennette McCurdy, because Kathryn is like a non-nasty version of Sam from iCarly.

What keeps you creatively charged?

Life in general. People are just awesome and writing about them is a blast (even though I don’t write about real people.)

What book have you read that you wish you had written and why?

Harry Potter. It’s awesome, and I should have thought of it.

Where do you like to write?

I am supposed to write at my desk in my office, but somehow I always find myself at the kitchen table or the table outside on the deck. It just seems like the thing to do.

Please reply with answers, your bio, book blurb, author photo, cover art, your contact links and sales links.

My Bio

P17-46292D. R. Rosensteel is a research consultant who had no intention of writing anything but technical papers describing his theories of metaphysical psychometry. But when a hoodied teen showed him a device that turned her thoughts into weapons, and told him about a secret society of protectors who trained her in their underground Academy, he knew her story had to be written.

He has put his research on hold to document the adventures of a girl whose face he’s never seen and whose real name he’ll never know.

Book Blurbs:

PSI ANOTHER DAY (released May 6, 2014)

When Rinnie Noelle, Greensburg’s youngest masked crime-fighter, totally botches her first mission and lets a frightening stalker escape, she is reassigned to protect her high school from arch-nemesis Mason Draudimon, a bully who has picked on her since fifth grade. The thought bores her to death. She could easily dust the lockers with his face, and that would be fun, but it would also give away the secret of her true identity. But the assignment takes on a whole new meaning when Rinnie discovers that the school has become a hunting ground, and she is the prey. The Walpurgis Knights, a mysterious group of supervillains, have dispatched an apprentice to find her. The good news is, he doesn’t know her true identity. The bad news is, she doesn’t know his, either. But Mason is the link to finding him.

Aided by an oddly shaped, politically imperfect band of outcasts, Rinnie searches the high school for the elusive apprentice. When the stalker returns to take a little girl from the elementary school, Rinnie has to choose between rescuing the girl and uncovering the identity of the apprentice. In an unpredictable game of deception, she learns that the Walpurgis Knights, the kidnapper, and Mason are all tied irrevocably to the man who murdered her parents.

Rinnie takes her Mental Arts skills to their limits in her first battle against the evil Walpurgis Knights.

THE PSI WHO LOVED ME (To be released in 2016)

When the Kilodan suddenly vanishes, Rinnie vows to find the Psi Fighters’ beloved leader. Her search uncovers hidden tunnels connecting Old Torrence and the mysterious Livermore Burial Grounds, where a single grave holds the key to all the disappearances. With the help of Mason and the Dweeb League, Rinnie finds the Kilodan. The problem is, he’s imprisoned with her classmates, and next in line for an experimental procedure that will mutate his mind, transforming him into a Knight. In a desperate attempt to save the Kilodan and her friends, Rinnie challenges the Nicolaitan, powerful leader of the Knights, to single combat, winner take all. It is a move that she may not live to regret.
