Title Of Book: Pulsus (Portum Book 3)
By: Kate Ridley
Sub-Genre: Dragons & Mythical Creatures
Chris and his young dragon are settling into life as fully-fledged squad members, but life in Portum is never peaceful for long.
Osprey’s painful past is revealed as new members are welcomed.
Wild dragons are defecting, claiming asylum in Portum.
Sariba lays a huge clutch and Narilka has worries about having enough potential riders for the new dragons.
Chris thinks he might have a solution.
Can he and Hess pull off the rescue of a lifetime?
Everyone watched as a very nervous Bert appeared in the cavern opening. The queen’s behaviour changed, she became agitated, excitable, extending her head towards Bert, flicking her tongue at him. Bert stood stock still. Chris watched in horrified fascination as the queen inspected his childhood friend.
With the eyes of all the riders, dragons and staff upon him, Bert took a slow, small step towards the golden dragon. She stilled, staring at him, not blinking, not even twitching her tail.
Hess felt it first, then the rest of the dragons let out huge bellows.
Bert’s face flushed, he couldn’t take his eyes off the queen, who was now moving towards him, lowering her head. As they watched, she nudged against him with her muzzle, the typical manner dragons used to ask their rider to pet them. Tentatively, Bert raised a hand and stroked the soft nose, his face full of wonder and delight.
Chris realised he was watching Bert bonding with a dragon. A wild dragon at that. That which Fallaren had stated was impossible had just happened before the eyes of the whole of Portum. A wild, grown dragon had bonded with a human.
Bert was now a rider, whether he was ready or not, he had got the dragon he craved. Chris sat on Hess’s neck, watching Bert and his golden prize.
Bert lifted his head and looked at his friend, ‘She says her name is Dannica,’ he said.

The Truth is a weak thing. It has no power. The only power the Truth holds is the power we grant it.
The might of nations rises and falls with the same, inexorable certainty of the oceans. Powers, unseen and unknown, push and pull, with relentless determination. The currents that shape the world are easily ignored until the waters rise, and the people drown.
In the Kingdom of Wahrheit, the tide has turned, and the water is rising.
A new ruler sits upon an ancient throne. Foreign nations, for centuries cowed by the strength of Wahrheit’s dragons and her armies, rise in defiance to throw off the old order. Fae, some thought to be nothing more than myth, stride Wahrheit’s fields and her council chambers. Within the kingdom, there are those who see disruption as a weakness and weakness as an opportunity. There are wrongs to be righted. Blood to be spilled. All in the pursuit of revenge.
There are those who could defy the call and stand against the tide of violence and blood. Six paladins, chosen by Fortune, or so it’s claimed. They are like the moon or the stars—ignorant of the power they exert upon the world. They follow the path chosen for them, and if their passing brings joy or sorrow, they know nothing but their journey.
That is the Truth. Their fate. Unless they can shatter the bindings of ancient law and forge a Truth of their own.
