Character Takeover – Meet Mandelfred Mandeheim #CharacterTakeover #EpicFantasy #SwordandSorcery

Allow me to introduce myself, I’m Mandelfred Mandeheim. You probably already know me as Manny.

PH asked me to share something about magic. My cases often send me researching some arcane trail of magical knowledge. Lately, I’ve been studying aura magic.

I don’t think PH has taken the time to share much about the practical functions of magic in my world. Let me explain some basics, and then more about my current subject.

Magic is pervasive in my world, a force of nature that can be harnessed with current discoveries and inventions to many uses.

But magic requires talent, skill, and knowledge to perform spells of all kinds. Using spells correctly is very important since risks from misuse are not uncommon. Even someone of a chaotic or criminal nature is well-advised to use magic carefully since the consequences can be dire, even lethal.

Without waxing too technical about all the factors involved, let’s settle on a beginning point: types of magic. The type seems like a term that lends itself to a solid definition, but when it comes to magic, it may be more nebulous in practice. Suffice it to say that a mage knows their limitations based on the type of magic with which they have an affinity.

As such, affinity is a more definite factor with regard to the type of magic. General types include alchemy, elemental, aura, and much more. There are even more specialized types with overlapping, or blurred, boundaries.

As I mentioned, aura magic is my subject of study. I won’t delve too deeply into the reason for my study, but it’s come to my attention that this form of subtle magic is being used in a more active sense than ever defined by academics in the past.

Let’s hit on some basics for this type of magic. Pure aura mages are rare, and those who possess a singular affinity for it often work in entertainment. Aura magic is not considered powerful, though there are those who are able to bend it to some impressive feats. I’ve known a few practitioners powerful enough to walk through solid obstacles, walls, doors, and such. Most do so only knowing where they are going, after all, one might assume they are walking through a wall, only to realize it’s far thicker. Loss of control would result in death in such a case. Walking through an unknown door might trigger traps both magical and natural. There are limits and dangers to this practice. In other words, don’t try this alone or without training. Most practitioners possess other abilities and only use aura magic to supplement their work, say as a disguise in my case as a former spy.

However, my latest discovery leads me to a more dangerous outcome; one which has never been recorded by academics. Might someone use aura magic to work where no magic can, even activating further magical powers in unexpected ways? My close observation tells me this is not only possible but has been done. The danger is immense and I’m investigating what limitations exist. This matter is of utmost importance since I’ve encountered it with increasing danger during my investigations of magical crimes.

Thanks for your time today. I might be back with other magical details of interest if PH is interested in me making future appearances in this newsletter. I’m told you should continue to scroll through this message, however, that works in your world, so you can see books and specials you may like.

Until we meet again,

Manny Mandeheim
