Sneak-Peek: The White Arrow Blurb

Photo used in The Bow of Destiny book trailer

Today, I’m giving a sneak-peek of tomorrow’s start to my Open-House event featuring digital autographs and lots of fun interaction here on Archer’s Aim. While you’re here, please take a few moments to share my Headtalker which will announce the event tomorrow morning across social media. It’s free and takes just a few clicks!

The White Arrow is progressing nicely at this point and it’s still my hope to release the book in late September (maybe the 20th).

There are always a number of details for book to be self-published and two of them are the cover and the book blurb. The cover is underway and about ready to be revealed. Check back tomorrow and you may get to see it during my weekend long digital autograph session.

However, the blurb is another matter and requires some thought. It’s always a trick with a book series to reveal what’s coming in the next book without ruining the books before it. Likewise, you have to be careful not to reveal too much about the upcoming book. I think it’s doubly true of the last book of a series – don’t reveal too much of the ending and risk ruining it for the readers. With that trepidation, here’s my rough draft of blurb for The White Arrow.

Haunted by his failure. Hunted for his inheritance. Seeking the fulfillment of prophecy.

Athson’s failures haunt him but he now has the object of his inheritance: the Bow of Hart. Though Magdronu and his servants are weakened, they still seek to thwart the Withling prophecy by taking the bow if they can find him. But they are aware of a powerful, unknown Withling who’s been assisting Athson and hunt him as well. Now Athson is missing in the wilds of the Troll Heaths after trying to save his father and Limbreth and his companions are looking for him. Though Corgren’s whereabouts are unknown, everyone is on edge. But there’s another facet to the prophecy: the promised arrow to be sent by Eloch. A sign has risen in the night sky foretelling the arrival of the arrow which is the doom of Magdronu. All involved are looking for the promised relic and what’s worse is the troll army standing in the way of Athson’s escape. Even if he wins free, Athson’s destiny awaits him with the coming of the white arrow and confrontation with Magdronu.

I’m still uncertain I’ve captured the essence of the book with this blurb. I offer it now for a bit of review and opinion but I’ll also rely on my editor for some solid input. This will likely change over the next few months but I’ve got something down and that helps to get the final version completed.

Thanks for reading today. Please leave your thoughts below in the comments and I’ll answer as soon as I can. Join me tomorrow for the beginning of my open-house event where I’ll offer digital autographs of my books among other activities. It runs all weekend!

Invitation: Online Autograph Party!

I wanted to announce that I’m hosting my own author event next week. It’s a little bit short-notice so everyone please share this post. I’ve been a bit busy lately so the date got close I hadn’t shared the event yet. If you don’t mind, please help out by supporting my Headtalker for the event.

What’s the event? For starters, I’m going to post where you can go to request a digital autograph from me to use with your digital version The Bow of Destiny or An Arrow Against the Wind. That’s right, I’m hosting a digital autograph session for readers. Just look for next Friday’s post that will run all weekend and I’ll respond to your request for an autograph.

Also, I’ll be available to answer any questions about the books that readers may have. It’s a great time to ask me anything about my writing and have discussions with me in the comments section of the post. You can even respond to comments from other participants as you like. I’ll also post some questions of my from the books for answers in the comments.

Additionally, I may be convinced to share a few prizes – a bit of a surprise for visitors and readers to the my site over the course of next weekend. Details will be in the post.

Lastly, I might just have a little sneak-peek of the cover of The White Arrow available to share with everyone. I’ve been working with my artist this week and we making good progress on it. I might just have the blurb written to share too.

So if you have a little time over next weekend, drop by Archer’s Aim, say hello and let’s have a little fun talking about reading. Get an autograph while you’re here and maybe get a good peek at what’s coming in a few months with the The White Arrow.

Rain, Ideas & More

Hello from rainy central Alabama. It’s been busy since I last wrote an update but that’s good!

The mower deck repairs were completed just in time to mow the yard before the current weather arrived. The grass was really high and thick but the mower performed very well. We’ve had rain most every day so getting the yard done was timely. In case you’ve missed the weather reports, Tropical Storm Cindy is landing in the gulf which brings rain to central Alabama both before and after landfall. Rain will continue throughout the rest of the week. Thankfully, we were able to purchase a new cover for the mower to protect the old mower deck. Otherwise, I’ve completed all the small maintenance tasks on the mower. This thing has really taken a lot of my time!

Our new edition to the family, the kitten named Minou, had a new round of standard shots last Friday. By Monday, he had developed a reaction to the shots with a fever. He slept all day but did eat and drink though which was good. He’s slowly bouncing back to his energetic ways after his fever broke Tuesday night.

One of the dogs likes to get on my daughter’s bed when it thunders which she did while Minou was feeling ill. The cat got up and laid down right next to the dog and she didn’t know what to do about that. The Dog let it ride and got comfortable until her dinner-time arrived. It was quite humorous to see the dog’s confused reaction to the cat sleeping so closely with her.

At any rate, I continue working on The White Arrow though I’m progressing a little slower than I’ve planned. However, I do intend to finish the rough draft very soon and begin all the marketing and editing phases during July and August.

I did come up with what I think is a good cover idea for The White Arrow. I emailed my artist and he likes it too. I’m working with him now to complete the cover so maybe it will be here next week at which time I’ll schedule a cover reveal. However, it may have a few versions with differing color-schemes so I may have time for a quick survey for response on which version is best.

I’m also working on scheduling an online event for An Arrow Against the Wind right at the end of the month. I haven’t decided where I’ll host it yet but I do plan on a few giveaways, fielding questions and even offering some digital autographs (using Authorgraph) for anyone attending the event. If it goes well, I’ll schedule a few more over the next several months.

I’m working on a few other online appearances as I have time so check my News page for more about those as well as the online events I’m scheduling. Additionally, a few opportunities may come my way that I’ll announce on that page too. I may land an interview with a local radio station which sounds like a lot of fun. I don’t know if it will work out just yet but the thought of it is exciting. Also, I might land an interview on a local, independent bookstore website. Again, nothing final on it but the opportunity would be nice.

That’s all for today! Thanks for reading and please feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments section. I’ll respond as soon as I can.
